informers.If you are a keen audiophile like myself then YouTube is a good source of not only video but also of audio tracks both old and new. The downside is that the quality of the audio is quite poor. But we are talking about a free resource here. The types of music available is also quite astonishing; I love the choral music which is available and quite often with a score included as part of the video.
But we're not here to talk about video so that's the last mention of it. Audio capture; reliable YouTube audio capture. This tool from the ever proliferate DVDVideoSoft, is called Free YouTube to Mp3 Converter 3.5. The install is straight forward and running it provides 3 main panes in the main window. The top window is used for pasting in YouTube links; the middle pane says where the converted output (MP3) will go and the lower pane shows the defaulted MP3 output quality.
Video types which can be converted to MP3 are a single YouTube video, complete YouTube playlists and show lists, all video responses to a YouTube video, all videos of a selected YouTube user or a channel and all videos from the user favorites. So, basically, an MP3 can be created from anything that exists on YouTube.
The output files are either MP3 or WAV. MP3 quality settings are economy, standard, extreme and insane.
Usability is good. YouTube links are pasted into the FreeMP3 main window. As simple as that. Screenshot#1 shows what you get after you hit the Download button. Basically it gives you a percentage complete dialogue and a Stop button.
Playing the MP3s is also straight forward. After the download has completed, select the Folder icon of the dialogue and then select the MP3 to play with your preferred MP3 player. Screenshot#2 shows the downloaded YouTube clip being played.
Finally, Screenshot#3 shows the Options dialogue which allows the selection of a proxy server, allows auto pasting of clipboard URLs, linkage with iTunes and browser integration.
